Thoughts of Figurative Art

When a person declares himself as an artist he is often asked what do you paint?

Personally I struggle with that question since I don’t like to be defined. I never was in any type of  drawers. I hate being labeled and be pushed into a category which only shows when it only describes a specific part of me.

For instance if you are using the crop tool on an image and then present what’s left as the whole image.

It’s just not true -it’s not the whole truth.

One definition of figurative art explains that “Since the arrival of abstract art the term figurative has been used to refer to any form of modern art that retains strong references to the real world.”[1]

The arrival of  abstract art has changed all the rule since before it all art was figurative and there for didn’t had any reason to define it as such.

In our life we tend to label things, feeling and even People and when the picture is changing we find ourselves struggling with it, trying to relabel so it will suit our first impression.

Bob Dylan described this well:

‘Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly aging’
Please get out of the new one
If you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’.

About ArTour

My name is Dana Goldring. Ever since I was a teenager I was fascinated by art throughout all of its colors- writing, painting, drawing, sculpturing and more. As the years went by I stood in front of a cross road and as oppose to Frost who was forced to choose only one road I fought to march them both- I chose the road most traveled. But all along I kept practicing my art on low gear. ArTour was created to fulfill a youthful dream of being an artist who can support his own art. Winning any struggle along the way without obligations except for one: being true to your art. Hopefully this dream will grow and succeed with your help and Etsy as a world wide platform to show my art. ArTour is my way to explore with you different kinds of art. This blog will be used as a small art guide and also as a platform to show my own works. My goal as an artist is to experience a variety of movements through art and to translate these techniques into my own art. So come on lets Enjoy the ride! Check out my own art at:
